Hello, Cotton Family..

It's been awhile since I've had the opportunity to reach out to my loved ones. Unfortunately, as many of you realized, I was unable to attend the 35th reunion due to a very busy schedule and other obligations. I'm sure, however, all of you had an exciting time..laughing and enjoying one another.
The next journey, from what I've heard will be in Washington, D.C!! That is awesome! Traveling to a place we have never visited should be just as exciting as the trip to LaGrange. Kudos to all of you who put in hard work and dedication so that these reunions can continue with many years to come!
If one Cotton member can't represent, it's good to know that many of you can! Hopefully, I'll see you guys soon..but always know if I'm not there my heart remains with you!
Until that moment come when we meet again..Be blessed and continue to LOVE~ D.Andrews (DVOICE)

I wanted to add, that Eddie Cottons father was Joseph Cotton, .....I have to think that we are family. I look forward to communicating with someone. I have been searching for the Cotton family for a long time. At least additions to the family I should say.

Would love to confirm that I have some family members out there on this site. I submitted an earlier post, talking about where my father was born as well as where he grew up.

My Son Benjamin..hopefully family to you all is an excellent little 7 yr football player, boxer, and pianist. I am a pianist as well. Take care and for those praying Cottons, I am trusting for a promotion at my company. Please pray that my interview goes well. Take care

My niece and nephew made me a very HAPPY Auntie, they both graduated high school this year!!! Congrats to  JaQuandice and Shune Jr. I pray that one day God will calm this storm, so I would really be able to celebrate them  and my children while I live. They deserve it! To all the new additions, WELCOME and I can't wait to greet you Aug.12th.
I love each and every one of you, seen and unseen. MY heart desires that we all be Blessed 1000 folds and may love, peace and increase overtake you!

Well, well Cotton Family,  we did it once again and it was GREAT!!!  The Lord loves us and showed us favor by allowing us another awesome time to fellowship and love each other in the flesh.  I really missed those who weren't able to attend Reunion 2010, but I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Atlanta GA 2011.  We are truly blessed and it is always a pleasure to say I am a part of the COTTON dynasty.  We here in Rochester NY are still talking about the good time we had and the family members that we shared our time with.  As always Jerry Jr. was a "blast" on the mic.  Flowers and David were a joy to get to know on a more personal level.  Shout out to Rihanna...have fun this year in school and hope you pledge :)  Until the next time, Hugs and Kisses.Tonya.

Hello, Family -

Hope all is well with everyone. August 6th is fast approaching. So it’s time to start getting ready for the ‘Cotton’ Family Reunion. I will be your master of the music box. That means we’ll be shoe tappin’, finger poppin’, soul shakin’ and jazz makin’ and having a good ole time.

I’ll be spinning records (cd’s actually) that ‘ll make you feel the groove. Songs that’ll put you in the mood and music that’ll make you sho’ nuff’ move. You’ll hear stuff from a long time ago. Stuff you ain’t never heard befo’ and stuff sure to make you beg for mo.’

So get out those high-heel sneakers and brush up on your dance steps. ‘Cause you’ll be doing the ‘electric slide’ to fusion jazz. Shaking your waist to the beat of Soca, Latin and Reggae rhythms. And, backin’ that thang up to Hip-Hop and Motown, Blues and Funk.

I’ll end with the words of Don Cornelius of ‘Soul Train,’ "You can bet your last money, it’s going to be a stone gas, honey."

See y’all in August!

A Cotton In The White House!

Yes it's true, a Cotton has made it to the White House. Marcus Cotton (2nd son of Virgil Cotton/ Maryland) is doing a summer internship in the White House. He works in the Office of Correspondance, directing calls from the public that come to the White House.

Although he has not seen members of the Obama family in the halls, he has permission to view the Oval Office (when the President is gone). He also has access to visitor passes for White House tours.

Marcus' 'term' is up at the end of August, but he'll be able to return to the job next year -2010 (if he so desires). Perhaps this time as an aide to the President.

Whew!! If you missed it, you missed a dandy. The 2009 Cotton-Family Reunion landed (well, some of us did) in the ‘Queen City’ that is Charlotte, North Carolina. And the city will never be the same again.

Cotton’s came to Charlotte in all shapes and sizes (some sizes a bit heavier than last year. Some, like Jerry Jr., came a few LB’s too light in the a*#!). Nevertheless, they came runnin’, walkin’ and crawlin’ from Atlanta, New York, Charlotte and Tennessee to make Reunion ‘09 the best one yet!

Man, did we have a ball! We sang (Sam Cotton sang a Lennie Williams tune to aunt Doris Reynolds and they won first prize). We danced (the dirty bird, the jerk, the boogaloo and even the funky chicken was performed). We laughed (when Aaron whooped up on Jerry Jr. at wii baseball). We dined (on BBQ, chicken, hamburgers, pork ‘n beans, corn and my favorite, sweet potato pie). We drank (Lorraine (CA) was tossing back Jaegermeister shots like it was lemonade - just kidding, Cody). We joked (about Ricky eating the last of the ribs, last year). We hugged (our commitment to forge a deeper family bond). We consoled (those who suffered a five hour ride in a window shut bus with no air conditioning). We inspired (showing off our cut up t-shirt designs). We admired (Ronnie and Pat’s new J.R. Crickets restaurant in Charlotte). But, most of all, we had a grand ole time being together once again.

Dem Cotton’s sure know how to do it right. Can’t wait for Reunion 2010 to be held in, Rochester, New York. It’s promises to be nothin’ but a stone groove, my man (and woman).

Family:
I wanted to share my response to the family member who had an experience that was out of the norm and who waited two years to express her disappointment.

Charlene,
I'm sorry that your experience was not a good one. However, I have been married into this family for 11 years and in their midst for 20+ years. I have never been made to feel like an outsider, nor has anyone else that I've invited felt this way. "Stuck Up" is the adjective that you used to describe the attitude and personality of whomever you or your husband encountered, and that is definitely not the norm.
I'm sorry that you did not feel welcome and I pray that God will touch your heart and enable you to see past what may have been misunderstood communication and allow you to get to know your family as a whole. You have a beautiful family that loves and embraces and you will discover that if you will allow yourself and your husband the opportunity.
God Bless

The Best Expression of Love is TIME...

The importance of things can be measured by how much time we are willing to invest in them....The more time you give to something, the more you reveal its importance and value to you..If you want to know a persons priorities just look at how they use their time...

Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it...you can make more money, but you can't make more time,,when you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life, that you will never get back,,your time is your life..

That's why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time..

And the best way to spell love is TIME..

These words are not mine they come straight from The Purpose Driven Life...I love you all...stay blessed ..

Hello Everyone! I work at the Easton Town Center in Columbus and I just met what I hope would be my extended family. ('Da Cottons!). I am a descendent of Henry Paul Cotton (father); Minnie Cotton (his mother) & Willie Cotton (his brother); all of them resided in Chattanooga TN (except for H Paul Cotton - he lived/died in Toledo, Ohio); I've only visited the Chattanooga Cottons once (after my father passed). I've since lost touch with them all. I hope this information will help me complete my 'family circle'. It was a pleasure meeting Ms. Gholston and familyl. (p.s. Please forgive if I don't make it to the fish fry...but Lord knows I'm going to try.) Be Blessed until next time. Shay

Greeting, Cotton Family and Friends, I just stopped by to let you all know how much a blessing it is for "Us" to be the type family that we are and have been since I can remember. I've been many places in my life and on the journey I noticed that what we have is some what rare. When you all are around me and I have you all laughing. It's because of the HAPPINESS that I feel while in your presence. This Lil' Jerry, as you all know me as, has a side of him that only GOD can explain. Many of you have sat and had drinks with me and some have just had some good Ol' conversations, but none of you could probably imagine the things that I THINK about when it comes to FAMILY. I've tried to imagine my grandma and her siblings be raised by Aunt Lilian (Suga Meat). I've tried to image how they as a FAMILY in LaGrange was, when both their parents were living. The images in my mind were always so jolly and guess it was this way because of what I have had the pleasure of experincing for over 30+yrs. I wonder sometimes, Why? as close as we are as FAMILY, we don't have our OWN empire of businesses. We have the people that knows what it takes to do it. We have truck drivers in the family (Trucking/Bus Company). Nurse and Therapist in the family (Home Healthcare Company). Musicians/Performers in family (Management/Talent Agency). And I can keep going.....an EMPIRE. Just imagine how our ancestors will feel, seeing how far we've come. It wasn't long ago when our folks were picking COTTON in the fields. Much LOVE to YOU ALL. Let's do something with "OUR" name. We owe it to our kids.

And we are more than often consumed with "life's daily obligations".
